Choosing Avery Dennison Performance Tapes for Your Building and Construction Applications
It’s remarkable how vital tape has become to the construction sector. Tape now goes hand in hand with building projects, right there with the hammer and nail. In fact, tapes have proven themselves so useful that they’re even able to replace more traditional mechanical fasteners altogether.
For years, Avery Dennison has played a major role in making these advancements possible. Their Core Series™ Portfolio alone offers an incredible array of solutions to choose from for engineers, contractors, and builders.
Let’s look at just a handful of ways that Avery Dennison gets the job done.
Building and Construction Tape Application Examples Where Avery Dennison Shines
Tape in construction applications deal with several challenges:
- Moisture resistance
- Insulation and a reliable seal
- Wide variety of surfaces to work with
- Permanent holds to irregular textures
- Aesthetic requirements
Below, we run through examples of how Avery Dennison tapes take on these challenges and much more.
Warm Edge Spacers in Insulated Glass Windows
Warm edge spacers go between glass panes to reduce heat movement (or thermal bridging). They help keep buildings warmer on cold days and cooler on hot days, lowering energy costs while improving indoor comfort all at once. If you’ve seen older windows collecting moisture and fogging up between panes, chances are that you’re looking at windows without warm edge spacer tech.
To maximize the performance of warm edge spacers, consider installing them with Avery Dennison tape products. Their standout features include the following:
- Ultra-high barrier to moisture
- Low thermal bridge performance (reducing heat movement)
- Low gas permeation
- Very high resistance to corrosion
Gasket Attachment
Gaskets come in all shapes and sizes and material types, usually meant to offer a seal between surfaces. There are various foam, rubber, and paper options out there in just about every industry under the sun.
Foam gaskets in particular can be tricky to find the right tape for. This is because of several variables that affect how tape sticks to foam. Such details include the foam’s base polymer (material), thickness, and cell type (open, closed). Basically, there are lots of different materials used for gaskets.
Avery Dennison has made finding the best tape for your gasketing needs easy with their Core Series™ product selector. Their impressive Portfolio covers the gasket gamut.
Since we’re a part of their ADvantage Converter Network, we can work with Avery Dennison to find the precise solution for you. We can even then take the material and die-cut to match your gasket specs.

Mounting Soap and Hand Sanitizer Dispensers
This and the next three mounting applications highlight how tape can replace mechanical fasteners such as screws and wall anchors. A common solution for mounting soap and hand sanitizer dispensers involves using polyethylene (PE) foam tapes.
Avery Dennison has several great PE foam tapes to choose from that perform exactly as you need for mounting dispensers:
- Gap conforming
- Shock absorbent
- Water resistant
Mounting Decorative Acoustic Panels
We’re starting to see decorative acoustic panels more often in commercial, retail, and office spaces. They provide an inviting atmosphere as well as deaden echoing in larger rooms.
Great options for this application include Avery Dennison’s Low VOC acrylic-based products. By low VOC, we mean that the tapes release fewer chemicals into the air. This trait makes them an ideal, healthier choice in places where people frequent.
Mounting Luxury Vinyl Planks and Tiles
Both decorative and durable, luxury vinyl planks (LVP) and tiles (LVT) are popular flooring and wall covering options in new builds. As with the dispensers, they’re usually installed using foam tapes.
Avery Dennison’s selection of foam tapes makes mounting these planks and tiles incredibly easy.
Mounting Tile Mats and Backsplashes
Like with vinyl planks and tiles, these mats and backsplashes are now easier than ever to work with thanks to tape. Plus, Avery Dennison has plenty of double-sided foam tapes to choose from for these installations.
Ditch the messy glues, mastics (resins), or mortars that take so much time to use. With Avery Dennison products, all you have to do is peel the liner off the tape on the back of the tile to stick it into place. Avery Dennison’s selection provides excellent permanent bonds and moisture-resistant seals.
Keep in mind, we can provide custom tape sheets or die-cuts to match your company’s tile shapes and sizes. Feel free to ask our experts to help you with the precise Avery Dennison custom solution.
Sealing Water-Resistive Barriers
For years, we’d commonly see new home builds wrapped in a weather-proof layer of material between the plywood and the siding. But now, there’s a new technology integrated into the boards themselves known as water-resistive barriers (WRB). It saves builders a lot of time because it does away with the need of wrapping the home in weather-proof materials.
All builders have to do is install the boards, then seam the perimeter of each board with a weatherproof tape. Many of these tapes are now being made with high-performance acrylic adhesives, which brings us back to Avery Dennison.
With several high-performance acrylic-based products, Avery Dennison tapes can offer you a better option than standard butyl or asphalt-based adhesives.
Flooring
Tapes are used for carpet tiles, the above-mentioned LVPs and LVTs, and several other go-to flooring options. These tapes need a heavy adhesive mass to reach the best achievable bond with irregular surfaces such as concrete.
Avery Dennison’s High Performance Acrylic (HPA™) line of products are perfect for these applications. They feature the plasticizer resistance you need and tear-resistance liners for easy installation.
